Surveying Trees-Assessing Risk

This is a one-day Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH) approved course. The class covers trees and the law, parasitic tree fungi, tree defects, health and safety when surveying trees, assessing works required, priority of action and risks.

A course workbook will be provided and there is an assessment with a practical element. Candidates who are successful in achieving the required standard will be awarded an IOSH certificate.

Ged M Collins has been an arborist for almost 50 years, having obtained a qualification on the subject in 1978. From 1985 to 2012 he worked as arboricultural officer for Salford City Council, managing five tree surgery teams and ensuring the local authority’s tree stock was in good order. He also provided expert advice to the planning department regarding tree preservation orders and the law.

In 2012 Ged established Global Tree Vision, an arboricultural consultancy that carries out tree safety reports and presents this tree assessment course.

Ged is a professional member and past director of the Arboricultural Association.

Arboricultural Consultant Global Tree Vision

Ged began working in Arboriculture at the age of 19. He graduated from Manchester University with a BSc in Environmental Sciences and Chemistry and was part of the Dutch Elm Disease Research team.

He was Senior Arboricultural Officer at Salford City Council from 1985 until 2012. As the Senior Arboricultural Officer he supervised five Tree Surgery Teams, ensuring that all of the City Councils Tree stock was in good order and provided expert advice to the Planning Department, regarding Tree Preservation Orders and the Law. In 2012 he established Global Tree Vision Ltd, an Arboricultural Consultancy, carrying out Tree Safety Reports and specialising in training the one day, IOSH accredited, Hazard Tree Assessment Course "Surveying Trees-Assessing Risks". He is a Technical member of IOSH, a Professional Member and past Director of the Arboricultural Association and a member of the Ancient Tree Forum.
