Understanding the maintenance & management of your irrigation system

Your irrigation system plays a vital part in the agronomic and economic performance of your club. This interactive class will enable you to increase your understanding of how and why we irrigate. It will include practical and management skills to enhance your maintenance regime. Delivered by industry professionals with end user experience, this class will enable you to maximise the performance of your irrigation system.

Learning outcomes:

  • Why we irrigate golf courses as part of our agronomic programmes
  • Irrigation components and their function within a golf course system
  • Practical skills to perform basic maintenance and daily set up of key components
  • Mechanical understanding of pipes, fittings, cable joints and modern irrigation equipment
  • Diagnosing two-wire issues and overall fault finding
  • The sustainable use of water in the short, medium and long term

Sven Weinberger is a certified course manager with over 15 years of professional experience in greenkeeping. Since 2021 he is Area Manager for Rain Bird in Central Europe.

Sven has gained his practical experience on international courses in Europe and overseas and has a lot of knowledge about, how irrigation affects the agronomic condition of the playing surfaces.

John is a patron of BIGGA and previously studied at Merrist Wood and Plumpton College. He is passionate about water sustainability, future planning and fault finding.
